His New Single Celebrates his Triumphant Life After A Traumatic Experience with Conversion Therapy

In “Memory Lane”, singer/songwriter Raph Solo takes a moment to reflect on the hardest lessons of his life; his unsuccessful attempt at erasing his homosexuality through conversion therapy.  It was a horrific experience for Solo and one that annihilated his self-esteem.  The song’s lyrics, taken from the diary he kept at the time, were written as a prayer.  “It’s a conversation between God and myself where I made a promise to never be filled with self-hate again,” he explains.    “I believe the ultimate key to inner peace and happiness is self-acceptance and loving yourself the way God made you.”  “Memory Lane” is Solo’s second release from his new album, LIFE, his powerful collection of retrospective ballads.  Its lyrics are by Raph Solo and melody by Timma Khayzaran.  Raph Solo’s “Memory Lane” is available now on Apple MusicSpotify and all digital retailers.

“It’s important to take stock on life every once in a while,” Raph Solo continues.  “We should make peace with our past and thank it for leading us to our present and granting us the opportunity to write our own future.”

“Memory Lane” is an acoustic ballad comprised of three basic elements (vocal, piano and strings) that also represent three important aspects of Raph:  his music, voice and soul.  Similar to the other songs on the LIFE album, it encapsulates the theme that “what doesn’t kill us makes us stronger.”  The idea is reflected in the song’s music video that depicts Raph returning to many of the locations featured in past music videos including the Sahara Desert (from his “Rich in My Heart” video) and the Canary Island’s Maspalomas Dunes (from the “Glass of Wine” video).

According to Raph, these locations define varying aspects of himself and by bringing them together in “Memory Lane”, he hopes it shows the power we all have to unify the complex characteristics within ourselves that may appear to be contradictory but, in truth, are complimentary.

“I grew up thinking that being gay and believing in God were incompatible but what I know now is God is love and love is love and love can be platonic, romantic and of more than one orientation.”

Born to Lebanese/Chilean parents on the Gulf of Guinea in Nigeria, West Africa, Raph Solo is a singer, songwriter and music producer.  He has released five full-length albums, including FINALLY, AM I TOO MUCH?, THE ANONYMOUS ICON and WORD OF LOVE.  Many of his most popular songs reflect on his personal journey of finding love.

“With LIFE, I hope to relay the message that we are each given one life: celebrate it! One story: write it!  And always remember that you are in a great place, wherever you are, because you’re here and you have survived the test of time.”

Raph Solo’s LIFE and “Memory Lane” are being released globally through Angel King Musique and are available on Apple Music, Spotify, Amazon as well all other online retail outlets. Its music video is available on Youtube.  For more information, visit raphsolo.com
